Water Bottle Testing: A Quick Overview

If you are in the water bottles business, you may be curious about how manufacturers control the quality. A good water bottle must pass multiple tests. Today, I will introduce you to several main water bottle tests to help you make the right purchasing decision.

Main Water Bottle Quality Test

Main Water Bottle Quality Test

Water Bottle Chemical Material Composition Test

When you are looking for water bottle suppliers, you must prioritize analyzing raw materials and chemical safety testing. Generally, we will test all raw materials used in production, such as plastic resins, stainless steel, and silicone. This step can make sure these materials meet purity standards. There is also food-grade testing to confirm that the products satisfy food-grade safety standards.

We also strictly screen for harmful chemicals, like heavy metals, phthalates, and BPA, to prevent them from leaking into drinks.

Water Bottle Insulation Test

We conduct tests following the GB/T 40355-2021 and the EU export standard EN 12546-1: In a 20°C environment, we fill the water bottle with 95°C boiling water, seal it, and let it stand for 6 hours to measure the temperature. A water bottle will be qualified if the temperature is higher than 42°C after the test.

We also perform vacuum sealing tests and cold and hot cycle tests to confirm the stable insulation performance and prevent insulation failure in the future.

Meanwhile, we carry out random testing on the whole batch according to the AQL standard. With this step, all final goods keep the same with what you have confirmed.

Water Bottle Sealing Performance Test

Sealing performance testing is a very important step before water bottles leave the factory. We fill the bottles with room-temperature water to 90% of their capacity, tighten the lids to the standard torque, and invert them for 5 minutes. Then we check carefully if there is leakage at the bottle mouth, threads, and all seams.

We also test it again with hot water over 90°C to make sure it doesn’t leak when filled with hot water. For some products, we also run air-tightness pressure tests. This helps us find any tiny leaks that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

It is worth noticing that we do a series of daily-use tests first, including simulate drop and vibration. Then, we’ll recheck the sealing performance.

Meanwhile, we also pay attention to checking the silicone sealing ring material, installation accuracy, and the fit between the lid and the bottle body. Only when all these items meet the standards will the water bottles be safely given to you.

Water Bottle Drop Test

The water bottle drop test mainly simulates the applications where water bottles accidentally fall in transportation and customers’ daily use, to examine the product’s drop resistance and structural stability. During the test, the water bottle is filled with a fixed water level and dropped freely multiple times to the ground.

Then, we will inspect the cup bottom, mouth, side, and other key parts separately. Qualified products should meet the following standards: The bottle body has no cracks or obvious dents, the seal stays tight and does not leak, the insulation layer remains normal, and the coating does not peel off.

Water Bottle Salt Spray Test

Salt spray test is a core inspection for you to evaluate the corrosion resistance of stainless steel water bottles or other metal bottles. During the test, the bottle samples are constantly kept under a saltwater mist environment for a long time, simulating extreme usage situations such as coastal, wet, and sweat contact conditions.

The salt spray test can quickly check how durable the material and surface are. If you are considering purchasing a batch of water bottles, you can understand the product’s rust resistance through salt spray testing directly. It can effectively avoid after-sales problems such as paint peeling, rusting, and leaking.

Water Bottle Size and Weight Test

Water Bottle Size and Weight Test

When taking the size and weight tests, we must strictly follow the requirements of the drawing sheet to confirm that all bottles in the same batch are exactly the same in size and weight.

We will use laboratory-grade professional tools to measure the height, mouth diameter, bottom diameter, and the lid-to-cup fit, and then weigh single bottles and complete boxes.

We will compare the measured data of each bottle with the standard, and the error must be within the qualified range.

We also test samples from every batch to keep all products the same.

Water Bottle Coating Adhesion Test

You should pay more attention to the peeling of the coating on the water bottles, which will directly affect your brand reputation. With our strict testing based on GB/T 9286-1998 and ISO 2409 cross-cut method, we can effectively avoid the risk of paint peeling as much as possible.

The whole testing process is standardized: We use a cross-cut knife to create a 1mm×1mm standard grid on the bottle surface, then tightly adhere a special pressure-sensitive adhesive tape and quickly peel it off to observe if the area is peeling.

If the peeling area is ≤5%, it is considered qualified.  0 peeling is considered a perfect product, confirming a firm adherence between the coating and the surface.

Water bottles that pass the test can withstand daily use scratches, cold and hot cycles without peeling, and significantly reduce the after-sales rate. We will give you stable-quality bottles through strict quality inspection.

Water Bottle Lid Quality Insulation Test

The lid of the cup needs to undergo four tests:

  • Drop test: Drop a cup filled with a certain amount of water from a fixed height several times, then check if the lid is damaged.
  • Tensile fastening test: Use equipment to apply a constant tensile force to the bottle to check the strength of the lid locking structure and make sure it does not fall off.
  • Pressure test: Apply air pressure to the inside of the cup to simulate high-temperature and shaking applications, and confirm the sealing stability of the lid to make sure no leaking of water.
  • Switch life test: Constantly open and close the lid switch thousands of times to confirm the durability of the lid switch and the smooth operation of the lid.

FAQ

FAQ

What Should Be Included in Complete Water Bottle Testing Reports For Bulk Orders?

A complete batch inspection report for water cups should include:

  • product information
  • core inspection projects
  • real data
  • whether it is qualified
  • sampling method
  • inspection conditions
  • third-party inspection stamp

If there are any problems, they should be clearly stated along with the solutions.

How Many Hours Should A Water Bottle Salt Spray Test Last To Keep Resisting Rust?

To confirm whether a metal water bottle can resist rust for a long time, salt spray tests usually need to last for more than 24 hours. For high-end water bottles, it is recommended that the test takes 48 to 72 hours.

Which Is More Reliable For Bulk Procurement: Factory Self-Test Reports Or Third-Party Inspection Reports?

When you are making bulk purchases, you’d better choose third-party reports. Factory self-inspection reports only represent internal testing, with loose standards and limited authority. Third-party inspection reports are tested by independent institutions, with objective and fair results, and are more credible and reliable.

What Is The Acceptable Tolerance For Size And Weight Between Batches Of The Same Water Bottle Model?

The size and weight of water bottles must be within the tolerance range of ±1% to ±3% of the drawing standards.

How Does Bottled Water Quality Testing Impact Wholesale Order Costs?

Although quality tests will increase your initial costs, they can obviously reduce the expenses for returns, exchanges, and other after-sales services. Therefore, quality tests for water bottles are necessary and serve as a cost control strategy for your wholesale business for a long time.

What Tests Should Food-Grade Silicone Rings Pass For Water Bottle Sealing?

Food-grade silicone rings must pass food contact safety tests to ensure they are BPA-free and satisfy FDA/LFGB standards.

They also need to undergo sealing performance tests, cold and hot cycle tests, tensile tests, aging resistance tests, hardness tests, and microbiological tests.

Only by these tests can we guarantee that they do not leak and deform at high temperatures, and meet your quality requirements for water bottle export.
